Aparecido and Davis continue to keep world title race close

With the first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) event win of his career, rookie Dener Barbosa (Paulo de Faria, Brazil) moved into first in the Rookie of the Year race over Cody Teel (Koontz, Texas) after winning the Frontier Communications Invitational presented by Cooper Tires on Sunday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh.

The two bull riders have battled back and forth during the second half of the 2017 season. Barbosa now leads Teel by 47.5 points heading into the final event of the year in San Jose before the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Nov. 1-5.
Barbosa was the only man in the two-day event to ride all three bulls. He began the day with an 81.75-point score on Deep End (Torres Brothers) before he finished with 86.75 points aboard Black Rose (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.
He finished with 450 points toward the PBR world standings and took home a paycheck of $33,200.00.
In one of the closest PBR World Title races, world No. 1 Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) rode his Round 2 bull and finished in ninth in the event earning 57.5 points to increase his lead over No. 2 Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) who finished in a tie for 13th place.
In the highest finish of his career, Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirao, Brazil) finished in second place with a total of 340 points towards the world standings along with $18,000. He rode Screamer (Torres Brothers) in Round 1 for 75.5 points before riding Nailed (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) to 8 seconds during the championship round for 88.75 points.
Rubens Barbosa (Iacaira, Brazil) finished the event in third place after his share of the win in Round 1. On Sunday he rode Cooper’s Comet (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) during the championship round for 87.5 points. He earned 320 points along with $15,565.
Countryman Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) finished fourth after taking Booger Red (Wallgren Bull Co./High View Cattle Co.) for 85.5 points. He was bucked off in the championship round but still earned 155 points in the event along with $7,400.

Fifth place went to Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada) who had a five-ride buck off streak snapped when he failed to cover Wired Child (01 Cattle Co.) in the championship round. In Round 2 he rode Wired Up (Torres Brothers) for 81.75 points. He earned 110 points towards the world standings along with $5,550. He moved from 27th to 24th in the standings.
Reigning World Champion SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co.) was named the YETI “Built For The Wild” Bull of the Event with an 46.25 bull score after sending Vieira flying during the championship round. Bruiser still trails Pearl Harbor (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) in the ever-tight World Champion bull race. Currently only four points separate the two bovine athletes.
