Bullfighters, Judges, Announcer Selected for 2017 PBR Canada Monster Energy Tour Canadian Finals
Bullfighter Brett Monea earns sixth finals selection, while judge Ryan Byrne to make his seventh trip to the Saskatoon event
PBR Canada bullfighters
Greg Loring Jr., Ty Prescott and Brett Monea have
been selected via rider vote to work this season’s PBR Canada Monster
Energy Tour Canadian Finals on Oct. 20-21at the SaskTel Centre in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
For
Calgary, Alberta’s Monea, this marks his sixth career and third
consecutive appearance at the PBR Canada Finals, while it will be the
first-ever trip for both
Williams Lake, British Columbia’s Loring and Strathmore, Alberta’s
Prescott.
While
Loring and Monea will both be making their finals debut, the trio have
teamed up on numerous PBR events, most recently at the final
regular-season Monster
Energy Tour event in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
This year’s judging contingent will consist of
Ryan Byrne and Merle Freeman.
Byrne,
patriarch of one of the most respected Canadian families in the sport,
will be making his first trip back to the event since 2011. He judged
each finals
event from 2006-2011.
The judging panel will be rounded out by Freeman, making his second consecutive trip to Saskatoon.
Both
bullfighters and judges were selected by the top riders in PBR Canada’s
national standings, all of whom are anticipated to ride in the
season-ending event.
After a year’s absence,
Brett Gardiner will return as the in-arena announcer. Gardiner
worked his first PBR Canadian Finals in 2012, and has since been the
voice for three additional finals.
The
PBR Canadian Finals is the sixth and final event of the 2017 Monster
Energy Tour, the nation’s first-ever cross-nation, nationally televised
PBR series. The
event will feature 35 of the top riders from the national standings,
all vying to be the 2017 PBR Canada Champion.
This
season, riders have had the opportunity to compete at more than 30
Monster Energy Tour and Touring Pro Division events across Canada to
earn points towards
the Canadian national standings, all in an effort to be the No.1-ranked
athlete at year’s end and crowned the PBR Canada Champion.
This
year’s Championship event will decide one of the most fiercely
contended national title races in history. With 2,000 points up for
grabs at the two-day event,
the Top 43 riders in the national standings having the chance to leave
Saskatoon as this year’s Canadian champion.
