ProRodeo Hall of Fame announces 2017 class

Randy Corley, an 11-time PRCA Announcer of the Year, joins five world champions to headline the 12-member 2017 induction class for the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, which was announced Tuesday. Corley, along with gold buckle winners including the late Buck Rutherford (all-around, 1954), Enoch Walker (saddle bronc riding, 1960), Tommy Puryear (steer wrestling, 1974), Mike Beers (team roping, 1984) and Cody Custer (bull riding, 1992), will be enshrined with rodeo notable Bob Ragsdale, a 22-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier in three events.   Also, voted in by the selection committee were four-time bareback horse of the year, Christensen Bros.' Smith & Velvet, and the committee for the Ogden (Utah) Pioneer Days. For the first time in the history of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, barrel racers from the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) will be amongst the class of inductees. Championship Bull Riding Showdown in Salina  It took fourteen bull rides from ten riders before CBR Rookie Boudreaux Campbell stacked the deck and selected a rematch for his final ride to win the CBR’s Showdown in Salina at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina in grand shoot out style. USDA announces $56 million to aid fire-affected farmers and ranchers The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is announcing the availability of more than $6 million in funding to implement practices that will help private farmers, ranchers and forest landowners affected by the wildfires blazing in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. “We have seen the devastating effects of these wildfires on agricultural operations and the funding announced today can help communities of farmers and ranchers start the process of recovery,” said Acting Deputy Agriculture Secretary Michael Young. “USDA is here to offer assistance, and I encourage producers who experienced losses to take full advantage of our financial and technical assistance to aid in their recovery efforts and alleviate part of the financial burden caused by these tragic events.” The funding, made available by the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQ

Zhang Lian has 270 tons of frozen Brazilian beef on a ship steaming toward Shanghai that he may not be able to get through customs when the vessel arrives next month. Zhang’s Shanghai Yadongsheng Import-Export Ltd. trades $200 million of meat annually, part of the global supply chain that keeps China fed. China’s decision to halt imports of Brazil’s meat until authorities are sure it’s safe has left Zhang with some worried customers. "It’s a bad situation,” said Zhang, an import manager at Shanghai Yadongsheng, which is called ADP Shanghai in English. “We’re telling customers who ordered those containers to be patient. We are advising new customers to avoid ordering Brazilian beef for the foreseeable future." Kolbaba comes from behind for second BFTS event win of the season, climbs to No. 6 in world standings

  Young gun Derek Kolbaba had fallen off after his hot start to the 2017 season, but the 20-year-old cowboy returned to the spotlight when he came from behind to win the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Bad Boy Mowdown Saturday night at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The victory was Kolbaba’s second Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event win of the season. Kolbaba went 2-for-3 in the 10 th event of the season, including a clutch 89.5-point ride on Cochise (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) to win the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. It was the first qualified ride Cochise had surrendered since January of last year. The Walla Walla, Washington, native earned his way into the final round with an 84.5-point trip aboard Taboo (Gene Owen Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 earlier in the evening. Aragao earns second career victory in state of Maine Robson Aragao captured his second Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event victory in the state of Maine on Sunday afternoon in front of a sold out crowd. Aragao was the only rider to go a perfect 3-for-3 on the weekend for a score of 248.5 points, earning $5,491.  Aragao rode Colt .45 (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 82.0 points in Round 1, Pay Day (J Bar W Ranch) for 81.5 points and Slow Ride ( Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 85 points in the championship round.  With the win, Aragao earned 80 points toward the PBR world standings and an invitation to the Built Ford Tough Series’ First Premier Bank Premier BankCard Invitational in Sioux Falls, South Dakota , Mar. 31-Apr. 2. GOLD STIRRUP AT RODEO AUSTIN HAS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR

The Gold Stirrup Horse Show at Rodeo Austin, presented by TIBH Industries, is a show for riders with special needs across Texas. Rodeo Austin introduced the Gold Stirrup Horse Show in 2010. For these competitors, riding is an important tool in both recreation and rehabilitation. Riding is also a type of therapy, helping strengthen muscles, improving both concentration and balance and building self-confidence. There are around 100 Gold Stirrup contestants ranging from elementary school to high school aged students. Contestants can participate in an array of events including barrels, trails, western equestrian, English equestrian and showmanship.  Lindsey Vickers has been the Chair of the Gold Stirrup show for five years, and has been a part of the show since its beginning in 2010. “We have two rules here at the show, safety first, fun second” Vickers said. “Safety and fun go hand in hand here at the show, and our number one concern is our contestants” Vickers

Keyshawn Whitehorse (The Woodlands, Texas) won the first round of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event at the Cross Insurance Center Friday night. Whitehorse rode Uptown Funk (J Bar W Ranch) for 85.5 points in Round 1, earning $800. Alex Cardozo , Ramon Rodrigues , and Brennon Eldred all tied for second place with 84.5-point scores. Cardozo rode After Party (Triple R. Bull Co.) while Rodrigues covered Blue Duck (Buckin ’ B Cattle Company).  Eldred earned his score when he reached 8 seconds aboard Tucker (Cornwell Bucking Bulls).  Alex Marcilio rounded out the Top 5 after riding One Horned Hooker (Buckin ’ B Cattle Company) for 84 points. Barbecue connoisseurs from around the globe flocked to Houston March 2 – 4, 2017, to show off their creative cooking skills at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. It was a barbecue bucket list item checked off for Darren and Sherry Warth of Iowa’s Smokey D’s BBQ. Brandon Davis takes PBR Velocity Tour Hampton Classic

Arkansas native earns first Velocity victory Saturday night   Brandon Davis captured his first Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) event victory Saturday night with a total score of 171 points inside Hampton Coliseum. Davis went 2-for-2 and earned $6,550 after riding Awesome Sauce (Cornwall Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points in Round 1 and Double Trouble ( J Bar W Ranch) for 86.5 points in the championship round.  With the win, Davis earned 80 points toward the PBR world standings and an invitation to the Built Ford Tough Series’ Ak-Chin Invitational in Glendale, Arizona , Mar. 25-26. Alex Marcillio earned his seventh Top 10 finish of the season when he took second place with a total score of 168.5 points. Last week’s winner of the Worcester Challenge, Emilio Resende (88.5 points), PBR veteran J.W. Harris (87.5 points), and 2016 Australia Champion Cody Heffernan (87 points) rounded out the Top 5. RODEO AUSTIN TO HOST 2nd ANNUAL BBQ AUSTIN EVENT

 BBQ Austin, presented by Miller Lite, will take place March 3-4, 2017 at the Travis County Exposition Center. BBQ Austin will feature a sanctioned BBQ cook-off with nearly 100 entries competing for the title of “BBQ Austin Grand Champion.” Attendees will be able to enjoy a variety of free BBQ samples from competing teams including ribs, chicken, beans and traditional sides. BBQ Austin also includes live music on the Outdoor Stage and Austin’s largest carnival for guests to enjoy. There will be two live concerts on Friday and four live concerts on Saturday including headliners, Charlie Robison and Kyle Park.   Cowboy Breakfast will kick off the two-day BBQ Austin event and the 15-day Fair & Rodeo beginning on March 11 through March 25, 2017.
