PRCA to sanction Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo

The PRCA and the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo are proud to announce that the 78th edition of the rodeo will be sanctioned by the PRCA.

The PRCA and the PPOB Rodeo have a long-standing history, and both organizations are pleased to be coming together to provide another opportunity at big money for PRCA contestants.

"The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo has tradition that is deeply-rooted in the PRCA's hometown of Colorado Springs, and we are thrilled to be partnering with them," PRCA CEO George Taylor said. "This rodeo offers the contestants tremendous hospitality, a packed crowd to compete in front of, and an opportunity to earn a large payday."

The 78th PPOB Rodeo will take place July 11-14 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. The exciting action will include performances each of the four days in which the top 2 competitors from each event in each of the four perfs will qualify for the July 14 Championship Round. There will be a minimum of $35,000 added per event.

"We consider ourselves PRCA's hometown rodeo and we're proud of this. It is truly a win-win situation for us both. We can continue the championship format that our fans love, while our contestants can earn top prize money that will count toward the world standings, and their quest for the National Finals."

The top 38 competitors in the PRCA RAM World Standings will be qualified for the PPOB Rodeo. The additional two spots will be filled by the 2016 and 2017 PPOB champions in each event.

The July 11-13 performances will begin at 7 p.m., with a matinee at 12:30 p.m. on July 14, followed by a 7 p.m. Championship Round. That round will feature the top 8 contestants/teams vying for a spot in the finals, in which the top 3 from the Championship Round vie for the big money.

All eight finalists will earn a check, with the lion's share of the prize money - $15,000 - going to the champion of the finals, while second place will earn $5,000 and third place will take home $2,000.   ~ PRCA Media
